The Environmental Product Declaration EPD is a document that describes the environmental impacts associated with the production of a specific quantity of a product or service: for example, energy and raw material consumption, waste generation, air emissions and effluent into water bodies.
The study that preceed the issuing of the certification, is prepared in reference to the life cycle analysis of the product, and its based on the previously conducted LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) study. The analysis is based on the consumption of resources (materials, water, energy) and impacts on the surrounding environment at various stages of the product life cycle. The minimum stages considered range from the extraction of raw materials, their transportation to the production site and the production itself, or until the product itself is decommissioned.
